Favourite part of the set?
The most outstanding parts are the silhouettes and lectern.
The Construction Process:
Silhouettes – The straight edges were made from clad steel tubes and the shaped front was made from layered plywood. Top, bottom and front incorporated an LED light box within its profile. The whole item was clad in black laminate and then finished in a metallic gold paint to match the BAFTA mask. Lectern – This consisted of a thin steel framework with a BAFTA mask and sponsor logo attached to the front. All the metalwork was finished in the same metallic gold paint as the lectern . The top was a thin plywood top covered in a black gloss laminate and housed two presenters/winners’ microphones. The base was made from layers of MDF with steel plates for stability. It had a thin flat base with a conical centre piece with housed the wireless microphone transmitters. The whole base was finished in black gloss laminate. The lectern was designed to be removable for when musical acts were on stage but also be sturdy enough for presenters/winners to lean on. This was done with removable fittings into the show floor that had to be set and removed within 45 seconds.
