Workshop Manager

Scott Fleary Productions, one of London’s leading scenic construction companies, is looking to recruit a Workshop Manager. The varied nature of projects undertaken by Scott Fleary, in theatre, television and live events, offer the right candidate a place to demonstrate their ability by leading a highly skilled and experienced team in completing projects to time, target and budget.

Job Purpose:

To facilitate the day to day running of the workshop, maintaining an overview of project schedules and project delivery, whilst ensuring the workshop team’s growth and wellbeing. To ensure existing workshop processes are adhered to, whilst updating, improving and streamlining these where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead the workshop in accurately building scenery to complex drawings to time, ensuring quality
    of work.
  • To effectively plan workshop schedule in coordination with Project Office and HODs.
  • Workshop logistics – goods in, van movements, load outs / ins and major operations.
  • Proactive approach to and responsibility for workshop H&S and sustainability practices.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of all workshop equipment.
  • Workshop cohesion and high staff morale.
  • Oversight of workshop training, apprentices, work experience.

The right candidate should display:

  1. Relevant industry background
  2. Ability to read & understand technical drawings.
  3. Extensive knowledge of materials and build techniques.
  4. Understanding and knowledge of planning and scheduling.
  5. Excellent and varied communication and inter-personal skills.
  6. Previous management experience.
  7. Health and Safety qualifications are welcomed but not essential.
  8. Proficiency with windows, excel, google docs etc is essential.
  9. Team player, organised and calm under pressure, ability to prioritise.

Senior Fabricator Welder

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Fabricator Welder with experience of mig and tig to join one of London’s leading scenic construction companies building quality scenery in a variety of materials for the entertainment, events and arts industries.

The varied nature of projects undertaken by Scott Fleary offer the right candidate a place to demonstrate their ability by working with a highly skilled and experienced team in delivering projects to time, target and budget.

This role would suit welders, steel fabricators or architectural metalworkers.

The right candidate should be able to:

  1. Scenic, construction industry or other relevant industry experience with good fabrication skills in mig and tig.
  2. Build accurate pieces off complex drawings.
  3. Identify shortfalls in drawings and identify any on-site build risks at workshop stage.
  4. Be resourceful, self-organise and prioritise
  5. Ensure quality of work for self and others.
  6. Show good communication, team and inter-personal skills.
  7. Comprehensive understanding and proactive compliance with workshop H&S rules and PPE.
  8. Have confidence with manual handling techniques.
  9. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualifications would be preferable but not essential.
  10. The ability to prepare for site in co-ordination with Project Office and to lead on-site build teams as required would be an advantage.
